However, there is something to be said for barrettes.  If you don’t want to spend money at a salon for professional braiding, you can put in a dozen or so larger braids at home.  Just secure the ends of each one with a plastic barrette.  Because you don’t have to worry about the braids coming out, you can even change the color of the barrettes every day to coordinate with your daughter’s outfit.  You can also use colorful rubber bands to secure her hair into three or more ponytails.  Usually a single ponytail of natural hair will be too poofy.  However, three ponytails look cute on little girls.  A lot of times you can even put rubber bands at different areas of the ponytail so that it will keep down the poofiness.
Depending on the length of your girl’s hair, you can gather it up on the crown of her head.  Then you can use some of her barrettes to clip sections of it down until it is a smaller and more manageable bun.  These are just a few examples of African American little girls hairstyles that you can try out on your daughter.  You are free to let your imagination run wild.
